The American Federation of School Administrators has reservations about the implementation and support for the public charter school movement. The Federation supports innovation in public school education, but has concerns that charter schools and other nontraditional school options may not provide the sustained reform that our nations public school require. In the event that charter schools and/or other nontraditional schools are implemented, the Federation feels that the affiliate and other education employees must be directly involved in the design, implementation, and governance of these programs. The Federation believes that such schools should not negatively impact the regular public school program and must include adequate safeguards covering contract and employment provisions for all employees and be provided adequate funding sources that do not take away current public school funds from the classroom.
