Whereas, there has been a great need to support grieving students across the United States; and
Whereas, a coalition of national educational-related unions and associations,including the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), came together to work with the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement and the New York Life Foundation to develop materials for use by various educational groups in regard to working with grieving students; and
Whereas, materials and electronically stored curricula have been developed and made available to everyone at www.grievingstudents.org; and
Whereas, AFSA has made the print resources available to all ofits locals, to support our members who have students who may be dealing with crisis and grief;
Therefore be it resolved, that AFSA commend the coalition partners and the founding partners of the National Center on School Crisis and Bereavement and the New York Life Foundation for working collaboratively on this issue of crucial importance to students and educators.
