Harrahs Entertainment, the owner of the Rio, Caesars and Ballys Casinos and Resorts, is the largest gaming company in the world and the largest corporate interest in Atlantic City. Thousands of gaming employees in Harrahs Casinos in Atlantic City have, by overwhelming majorities, voted to unionize with the UAW.
However, Harrahs has refused to bargain with the UAW, has cut employee benefits and has intimidated employees for supporting their union.
AFSA will support these employees by:
- Meeting with management at The Rio to encourage Harrahs to recognize the UAW as the collective bargaining representative for the gaming employees at Caesars and Ballys, to bargain with the UAW on behalf of these employees, and to cease and desist from any acts of retaliation or intimidation against employees for their union activities; and by
- Refraining from booking any further business with The Rio or other Harrahs properties until these labor disputes are resolved.
